Brief notes on the town:
Built under the hill dominated by the castle of Burgos, Esporlatu rises close to what was one of the oldest and perhaps most important centres of Goceano, the vanished village of Bortiocoro which, after the decline of Anela, became chief town of the administrative region only to be destroyed (or abandoned) in the late Aragonese age.
Economic activities:
The economy of the town is principally connected with agriculture.
The history:
The surrounding territory had already been populated since prehistoric times. Evidence of this is the remains of the nuraghi (including those of Erismanzanu, su Tione, Fuschiosa, Orrios, Sos Canales, Acchilezzi). Esporlatu followed the fate of the other centres of Goceano: having become part of the county of Goceano, when this was formed under the Arborea, in 1339, it became royal fief with the Aragonese, and remained so, under the Spanish and Piedmontese, until the abolition of feudalism in 1839.
