Brief notes on the town:

The populated centre lies at the foot of the Goceano range in a picturesque and fertile concave valley washed by the Tirso River and rich in sulphurous thermal springs known and used since Roman times. The territory is famous for its woods visited by many walkers: extending for 1,500 hectares they are of particular importance for their naturalistic quality and impressive for their unblemished beauty. The forest complex includes the two well-known localities of Sa Fraigada and Fiorentini which preserve some of the most typical plants of Sardinian flora: the Holm oak, the downy oak, the yew and the holly. Thousands of pines, larches and Atlantic cedars, imported from Corsica in 1927, wave their tops majestically. They have adapted themselves perfectly to the climate and contribute to the creation of an environment that is favourable to the life of varied and plentiful fauna: in fact boars, pine martens, foxes, weasels and sparrowhawks are found here in large numbers. With the authorisation of the State Forest Administration it is possible to camp in areas which are specifically designated. The prehistoric sites are numerous and include a striking monumental dolmen type tomb (with a covered corridor) in the zone of Su Coveccu. Tombs of the giants (like those of Sas Prisgionas) and numerous nuraghi (Norchidda, Curzu, Logustana, BonirĂ², Ludo, Pedra 'e Battile, Tilariga are evidence of Nuragic civilisation: in the latter it is still possible to catch a glimpse of the remains of the corbels which supported the upper terrace, perhaps in wood).

Economic activities:

The primary activity is agro-pastoral. There are many small entrepreneurial independent craftwork initiatives. Its future is connected with the development of the Baths of San Saturnino and the development of the mountain’s resources.

The history:

Its origin is lost in the silence of history. It is assumed that the first settlements began in the Medieval period. It seems probable, however, that the district of "Oriatta" and the district of “Su Enu” can boast even older origins. It is certain that during the Imperial period, the area had different settlements, located in the region of Santa Vittoria and Santa Giulia, downstream from the current populated centre. During the Judicial period, we find it inserted in the county of Goceano and more precisely in the administrative region of Anela. In some documents it appears as "Gulsei". Later it becomes Bultei, as it occurred with Bortiocoro, which was called Gulciocor, and with Bottidda, which was called Gocille. The existence of a populated centre called Bulterina, located close to the current Benetutti, seems certain. It seems likely that with its disappearance, part of the population moved for unknown reasons to another more salubrious location and that to remember Bulterina they called the new populated centre Bultei.
